2014 has come and gone in what seems to be a flash and today is the 1st day of January 2015. Usually, at this time of year, I’m away, abroad, or resting after a New Year’s Eve performance somewhere in South Africa, however this time, I opted for quiet time indoors, having booked off the last 2 weeks of December for “me time”.

This has allowed me to rest and detach from the festive season performance buzz, allowing me time, space and the resulting clarity to reflect on the year that was, to catch up on some summer reading and spend time with family and friends.

I am thankful for family, friends and the incredible audiences I have met this year. During this reflective period, I’ve also looked at my personal & spiritual evolution and the lessons learnt. Whilst I’m known to more people as the entertainer and show man, I’m deeply focused on quality of life and living my dreams. In fact, this is the core message of my stage performances – “We are amazing beings, capable of creating amazing lives and living our dreams.”

With the new year, we associate resolutions, goals, intentions and new direction. I’d like to share with you one of my major life lessons that continue to assist me on a regular basis. This deals with the concept of “SURRENDER” relating to our intentions, dreams, desires and so forth.

In my experience, I have found that it’s all well and good to be clear about what we want and the direction we choose, doing the best we can with what we have. After all, “If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there?”, however being attached to a specific outcome can inevitably lead to disappointment at the very least.

Allow me to elaborate with an example I share with friends. A few years ago I worked on a project that I was passionate about with the intention of a specific result. During that project, I was open to what it would bring, and whilst the intended outcome did not materialise, someone  had seen the final product, and was impressed so much so, that it opened another door that has been one of the most incredible achievements and milestones for my business “Mo Magic”.

The long and short of this specific example is that it is essential to be clear about our direction, intention and outcome, however its equally important to completely detach from the outcome, because sometimes there is a better outcome in store for us, bigger and more beneficial than we can envisage. Surrender to what will be, letting go of the specific outcome and trust in this. Trust that something wonderful will result.

Oprah Winfrey explains this in her life experience with what she refers to as one of the major realisations and turning points in her life. This 60 second clip, below is taken from her Masterclass TV show where she speaks about wanting then surrendering.

The 10 minute clip may be found on Youtube here. I highly recommend that you watch this and  see how Oprah applied the principle of Surrender for her role in “The Colour Purple” and how it changed her life forever.

In 2015, may you live your dreams and experience inner joy and contentment.

With Love, Mo Magic.
